What to bring, Diet & Medical Guidelines
What to bring
During a Huachuma ceremony/walk in the sacred valley you may experience all four seasons in a day, from sunny & hot to rainy, windy & cold. We recommend bringing several different layers to take off & put on as the weather shifts. We recommend:
- Good hiking shoes/boots, a rain/wind proof jacket, sun hat & small backpack.
- Bringing at least 1-1.5L of fresh drinking water and a small snack e.g. fruit, nuts, sandwich etc.
- Sunscreen & insect repellent.
Diet:
- We advise following the below dietary guidelines for at least three days prior to the ceremony (ideally one week).
- Low sugar.
- Avoid processed and fried foods.
- Try to drink at least 1.5L of water per day.
- Avoid high caffeine intake.
- Eat foods rich in calcium.
- Do not drink alcohol or consume hard or soft drugs.
Medical Advice:
As our walks take place at high altitude we recommend arriving in Cusco a few days early in order to fully acclimate.
- It is very important that you let us know any and all existing medical conditions regarding both your physical & mental health prior to the ceremony.
- It is also crucial to inform us of any prescription or over the counter medications you are or have been taking recently.
- If you have any concerns regarding e.g. health issues related to drinking Huachuma, high altitude hikes or any medication interactions, please consult your general health practitioner or a health professional.
